A skilled and trusted aged care workforce
23 Sep 2025
What aged care workers must do:
-
Listen, understand, and treat people with kindness and respect
-
Support older people to make their own decisions about their lives
-
Have the right qualifications, skills, and experience
-
Follow the Aged Care Code of Conduct and Statement of Principles
All aged care workers will be screened and assessed to make sure they are suitable to work in the sector. The Statement of Principles also encourages workers to improve, innovate, and provide high-quality care.
Workers are supported to give feedback to their employer about the care being provided. If something isn’t right, older people have the right to speak up without fear of punishment or unfair treatment.
How workers can support you:
-
Raise concerns with your aged care provider
-
Make a complaint to the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission
-
Connect you with an independent advocate, such as the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN)
These changes aim to build an aged care system you can trust—one where your voice matters, your choices are respected, and your care is centred around you.
