Strengthening Our Culture Community Grants now open

Strengthening Our Culture Community Grants now open

03 Mar 2023

The program has been developed to encourage South Australian Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations to strengthen culture in Aboriginal communities by designing and implementing programs that focus on the Cultural Determinants of Health.

The Cultural Determinants of Health include connection to Country, cultural expression and continuity, family, kinship and community, beliefs and knowledge, language and self-determination and leadership.

The grants program will be implemented using a community of practice approach, supporting Aboriginal communities and organisations in developing sustainable skills, sharing knowledge and learning from one another to deliver programs that support wellbeing across the community.

Wellbeing SA’s Aboriginal Health Promotion team will be delivering Community of Practice workshops to support grant recipients with the development and delivery of their projects.

More information on the Strengthening Our Culture Community Grants Program is available on the Wellbeing SA website www.wellbeingsa.sa.gov.au/strengtheningourculture

We are excited to see the diversity of applications for the Strengthening Our Culture Community Grant Program, working to support our Aboriginal communities.

Highlighting the Cultural Determinants of Health, the Grants will help promote and support a variety of projects within Aboriginal communities.

Strengthening culture within communities is an important step in reshaping how we support the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people across the state, and the creation of the Aboriginal Health Promotion team is a great step forward in supporting South Australian Aboriginal communities. Developing sustainable skills and sharing knowledge at a local level is of utmost importance in supporting wellbeing across the state

I encourage all those eligible to apply for the Grants to consider how the funding could assist with their initiatives and strengthen the wellbeing of Aboriginal people in their local area
