The survey spoke to older Australians to understand their experiences in residential aged care.”

The 2024 Residents’ Experience Survey spoke to over 36,000 residents across 2,603 aged care homes nationwide. Overall, 95% of respondents gave positive feedback about their care environment.

Compared to previous years, residents were even more positive in 2024. Eighty-eight percent said they would recommend their aged care home to others.

The biggest improvement was in residents’ ability to make choices about their daily lives:

  • 91% said they have a say in their daily activities – up 10% since 2022.

  • 88% said they are encouraged to do things for themselves – up 7% since 2022.

These results help aged care providers understand what residents value most and where improvements can be made.

The survey also contributes to a third of an aged care home’s Overall Star Rating, which provides older people, their families, and carers with clear information about the quality of care in each home.
