Warning: Asbestos Found in Decorative and Play Sand Products
21 Nov 2025
Consumers are urged not to use these products and to follow safety advice for disposal. A full list of affected products is available on the ACCC Product Safety website.
The Department of Health supports public guidance from enHealth on asbestos contamination, which includes information on health risks and safe handling. Tasmanian workplaces should also follow WorkSafe TAS guidance for handling contaminated sand.
Households can safely dispose of recalled sand by following instructions on the ACCC website. Some Tasmanian councils offer free disposal at approved local sites; residents should contact their local council for details.
