WA Welcomes Record Number of New GP Registrars
09 Feb 2026
130 registrars will spend all three years of training in rural, regional, or remote WA, while 121 registrars in Perth will spend at least a year in outer metro, regional, or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health posts.
RACGP WA Chair, Dr Ramya Raman, said the registrars were keen and ready for the challenges of general practice.
“It’s wonderful to see the next generation of GPs coming through. They are the future of our profession,” she said.
Registrars like Dr Robbie Dumbrava from Bunbury and Dr Prasanna Henegama shared their excitement about helping local and rural communities.
The welcome coincided with a historic $751 million AGPT grant for GP training the largest ever awarded to a specialist college.“It’s a positive step forward for WA general practice and the patients who rely on it,” Dr Raman said.
