Victorian Public Health Services Achieve 100% Compliance with Healthy Choices Policy

17 Feb 2026

For the second year running, all services have achieved full compliance with the Healthy Choices: Policy Directive and Guidelines.

Introduced in 2021, the policy aims to make the “healthy choice the easy choice” by requiring public health services to provide healthier options across in-house cafés, vending machines, and food at staff meetings.

This year’s results highlight strong sector-wide commitment:

  • 100% (59/59) of services with in-house cafés met policy standards

  • 100% (38/38) of services with vending machines met requirements

  • 100% (80/80) of services had a catering or healthy eating policy in place

The Healthy Eating Advisory Service supported participating health services throughout implementation, offering guidance, tools and practical advice. One service said:

"It was my first time reporting on the policy directive, and the Healthy Eating Advisory Service has been amazing at supporting us and walking us through it."

Victorian health services and the Healthy Eating Advisory Service continue to collaborate to ensure staff, patients and visitors have access to healthier food and drink options. A full report of this year’s results will be published on the policy page soon.
