Victoria Expands Access to Endometriosis Care
25 Mar 2026
New services are being rolled out across Victoria to improve access to endometriosis care, as March marks Endometriosis Awareness Month.
Endometriosis affects around one in seven women in Australia. It is a long-term condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the womb, often causing pain and other health problems. Many people live with symptoms for years before getting a diagnosis.
Common symptoms include painful and heavy periods, ongoing pelvic pain, back or abdominal pain, and pain during or after sex. The condition can affect daily life, including work, study, relationships, and fertility.
To improve care, the Victorian Government’s Women’s Health and Wellbeing Program is expanding services across the state. New Women’s Health Clinics are providing free, specialist care in one place, helping patients get earlier diagnosis, treatment, and support closer to home.
These clinics offer care for a range of women’s health issues, including endometriosis, and are open to women, girls, and gender diverse people.
As part of the program, more than 10,000 free laparoscopies will be delivered between 2023 and 2027 to help diagnose endometriosis. Care is also available through a dedicated Aboriginal Women’s Health Clinic and a Virtual Women’s Health Clinic offering free telehealth appointments across Victoria.
The program aims to reduce delays in diagnosis and make it easier for people to access the care they need.
