Travel Subsidy Available for BreastScreen Tasmania Clients

Travel Subsidy Available for BreastScreen Tasmania Clients

01 Oct 2025

The temporary travel subsidy supports clients who would normally have been screened on the Mobile Screening Unit Luna, which was decommissioned in April 2025. A permanent replacement unit is being planned, but this scheme provides interim support.

Who is eligible:

  • Clients who need to travel 50km or more each way to attend an alternate BreastScreen Tasmania service can claim a travel subsidy.

  • Clients travelling 100km or more each way may also be eligible for reimbursement of accommodation costs.

  • The subsidy covers clients whose appointments were cancelled or missed in 2025 and 2026 due to Luna being decommissioned. Eligible clients will be contacted directly by BreastScreen Tasmania with information on how to access the subsidy.

BreastScreen Tasmania continues to work with cohealth and other community organisations to provide free charter buses from the East Coast to alternate screening locations, with additional trips scheduled as needed.

The team is also helping clients overcome any barriers to ensure they can access screening at alternate sites.
