The power of protein foods
07 Aug 2023
Including protein foods with every meal is important as we get older. These foods can help older people to:
- stay well for longer
- maintain or build strength
- speed up recovery
- live at home independently.
Taste changes, difficulty chewing or cost limitations can sometimes mean people don’t eat as much meat. Luckily, there are plenty of other foods high in protein that you can enjoy at each meal. Good options include:
- fresh or canned fish (e.g. tinned tuna, sardines)
- eggs
- nuts, seeds and nut spreads (such as peanut butter)
- legumes, such as lentils and baked beans
- milk and dairy products, such as milk, yoghurt, custard, cheese and milk powder.
