eReferrals are making it faster, easier and more convenient for your doctor to refer you to the care you need through a centralised digital system, without the need to send faxes, emails, or print and scan written referrals.

Once an eReferral has been received, doctors get automated progress updates. And you can receive your appointment reminders as a convenient SMS.

The end result is more time spent on care and less time spent on waiting lists.

eReferrals success in numbers

  • 234,901 referrals now seamlessly processed through the new Referral Management System
  • 253 public outpatient service use eReferrals
  • 2-3 day average reduction in ‘Time to Triage patient referrals’ across all major hospitals.
  • 135 times the height of Cradle Mountain – the length of the trail of paper saved by the Department of Health so far.

The eReferrals project is part of the Digital Health Transformation Program delivering clinically led, patient centred initiatives to transform the state’s health system into a modern, integrated care system ready to meet the challenges of the future.

A big congratulations to our Digital Health Transformation and Outpatient Transformation program teams, our partners Primary Health Tasmania and all involved in this fantastic achievement.
