Scholarships Open to Support Practice Nurses in Cervical Screening
27 Jan 2026
General practices, women’s health centres and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services can receive $1,000 per practice nurse who successfully completes the training. Nurses pay the $285 course fee upfront, with reimbursement provided after submitting proof of enrolment and a course completion certificate. The funding is designed to help cover course costs, staff time, backfill, travel and parking expenses. A total of 50 scholarship places are available.
To be eligible, nurses must work in primary care within South Western Sydney, including the local government areas of Bankstown, Campbelltown, Camden, Fairfield, Liverpool, Wollondilly or Wingecarribee. Scholarships are outcome-based, paid on completion, and require prior approval from SWSPHN before course registration.
The training is delivered by Family Planning NSW and uses a blended learning approach, combining online education with face-to-face practical skills sessions. It is recognised as a CPD Activity under the RACGP CPD Program, providing 3 Education Activity hours and 2.5 Reviewing Performance hours.
The course focuses on cervical screening guidelines, HPV and cervical cancer, communication and history-taking, sample collection techniques, and hands-on practice using pelvic models. Nurses must complete the online learning component before attending the in-person session.
Training sessions are scheduled across multiple locations between February and June 2026, including Newington, Dapto and Penrith. Dates are current as at 27 January 2026 and may be updated.
Nurses interested in applying must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to SWSPHN. Approved applicants will receive written confirmation before registering and paying for the course. Reimbursement is processed after successful completion, with payments typically made within two to four weeks.
For questions about eligibility or the application process, nurses can contact the SWSPHN Integration and Priority Populations Coordinator during business days.
