Safe alcohol policies linked to stronger tourism outcomes, study shows
17 Sep 2025
The study, led by Curtin University’s National Drug Research Institute, found that domestic visitor numbers to major WA tourism regions, including the Kimberley and Goldfields, actually increased after new liquor laws were introduced.
Concerns about alcohol-related crime and anti-social behaviour can influence tourists’ travel decisions, affect return visits, and reduce positive recommendations. The research suggests that implementing safe alcohol policies can improve perceptions of regional areas, supporting both economic growth and community health.
