RACGP Wants GP Software to Include Social Health Checks

Dr Kuljit Singh, Chair of RACGP Social Prescribing, said social connection is now a major part of health care.

“Doctors don’t just treat illnesses – we care for people’s lives. Social prescribing is essential to prevent long-term physical, mental, and social health problems,” she said.

The RACGP says social factors account for up to 55% of health outcomes. Using tools like the UCLA Loneliness Scale could help GPs understand patients’ challenges and provide better care.

Loneliness and social isolation affect about one-third of Australian adults, with health risks higher than smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
