RACGP lands largest-ever GP training grant

06 Feb 2026

The funding, part of the 2026–2030 AGPT program, will allow the RACGP to continue providing consistent, high-quality training to more than 2,100 new GP trainees this year, with at least half in rural and regional communities.

RACGP President Dr Michael Wright said the announcement is a major milestone for general practice. “It gives trainees and the college confidence that general practice has a strong future and supports growth of the GP workforce,” he said.

The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) will receive $331.7 million to continue rural and remote GP training, ensuring doctors are trained where communities need them most.
