Presolol 100 (labetalol) tablets shortage – approved alternatives
26 Aug 2025
Pharmaceutical company Alphaparm has reported that Presolol 100 (labetalol hydrochloride 100 mg) tablets will be in shortage until 3 October 2025 because of manufacturing problems.
The higher strength, Presolol 200 (labetalol hydrochloride 200 mg) tablets, is still available. Labetalol is a medicine used to treat all types of high blood pressure.
To make sure patients can still get their treatment, a Serious Scarcity Substitution Instrument (SSSI) will start on 26 August 2025. This allows pharmacists to give labetalol 200 mg instead of labetalol 100 mg without needing a new prescription, if it is suitable for the patient.
When substituting:
-
One tablet of Presolol 100 (100 mg) = half a tablet of Presolol 200 (200 mg)
