NT AMA to Join Federal Body in Landmark Move

Tasmania’s experience offers a clear example of the benefits this model can deliver. Since joining the federal AMA, Tasmania has achieved budget savings, expanded its team, and maintained local independence, while having the federal secretariat available to support national-level advocacy when needed.

The NT branch will gain similar advantages, including access to federal policy and advocacy experts who engage daily with decision-makers and influence national reforms.

Meanwhile, the ACT AMA is also considering a move to become a federal branch, with an extraordinary general meeting scheduled next week to vote on the proposal.

The AMA has emphasised that branches choosing to remain independent will continue to receive strong collaboration and support. A recent partnership agreement with AMA Victoria demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to working closely with all branches, regardless of their governance model.

The focus remains on collective strength and sustainability, ensuring that all Australian doctors benefit from robust representation at both local and national levels.
