NSW Offers Free Japanese Encephalitis Vaccine to More Outdoor Visitors
17 Mar 2026
This comes after the virus was detected late in the mosquito season, and aims to protect campers, fishers, and caravaners.
Eight more LGAs are included: Armidale, Ballina, Bathurst, Byron, Oberon, Tweed, Walcha, and Yass Valley. Vaccination is available until winter for anyone planning outdoor trips in these areas while mosquitoes are active.
JE is rare but can be serious, causing severe illness in some people. There’s no treatment, so vaccination and mosquito protection are essential.
