New National Model for Children with Developmental Delay and Disability
13 Nov 2025
This work is part of the broader Thriving Kids initiative, scheduled to roll out in July 2026.
At the meeting, members reviewed key elements of the future model, including universal parenting supports, targeted early interventions, and more coordinated service pathways for families. They also examined workforce challenges and the potential role of digital tools in improving access and helping families navigate services more easily.
The group received an update from Dr Mike Freelander and Dr Monique Ryan on the Parliamentary Inquiry into Thriving Kids, which has attracted more than 400 submissions from stakeholders across Australia.
The new model aims to deliver timely, practical and more consistent support for young children with low to moderate support needs, ensuring families can access the right services early and close to home.
