New Medicare Mental Health Check‑In Service Goes Live Across Australia

12 Jan 2026

You don’t need a referral, diagnosis, or GP appointment to get started — all you need is to be 16 or older and living in Australia.

The website is live now with a range of evidence‑based information and tools to help understand what you’re feeling — whether it’s stress, trouble sleeping, low mood or just feeling overwhelmed — and practical self‑care tips you can use straight away.

Roll‑out of Services

The program will expand in stages:

  • 30 March 2026 — free guided support with trained practitioners by phone or video.

  • 30 May 2026 — easy‑to‑use self‑guided tools you can work through at your own pace.

The service is delivered by St Vincent’s Health Australia and uses Low‑Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (LiCBT) — a proven, practical approach to building resilience and coping skills before issues escalate.

Who It’s For and How to Join

Medicare Mental Health Check‑In is geared towards people experiencing mild mental health challenges who want early support without complex paperwork or doctor referrals. You can register your interest on the Medicare Mental Health website to be notified when personalised support becomes available.

This service is just one of several ways Medicare now offers free mental health help — including phone support and online resources — so you can find the support that suits you.
