NACCHO Welcomes Two New Members, Expanding ACCHO Network to 148

ACCHOs are community-owned and locally governed health services that provide comprehensive, culturally informed primary healthcare. Built on trust and accountability to their communities, ACCHOs have consistently delivered better access, engagement, and health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for over 50 years.

NACCHO Chair Donnella Mills said the milestone reflects the strength and determination of communities:

“Welcoming Maari Ma and the Indigenous Wellbeing Centre means adding the voices and leadership of two more communities. When communities run their own health services, they bring culture, lived experience, and local knowledge to the centre of care. Reaching 148 members shows the resilience and growth of our sector and proves the community-controlled model not only works—it thrives.”

NACCHO CEO Pat Turner AM highlighted the importance of sustained investment in community-controlled health to achieve Closing the Gap targets:

“Community control is a proven model that improves health outcomes. More ACCHOs mean more access to culturally safe, comprehensive primary healthcare—delivering services where they are needed most. If governments are serious about Closing the Gap, they must continue to invest in what works. Our sector is ready and growing stronger every day.”

NACCHO now represents 148 ACCHOs, operating over 550 clinics nationwide and delivering more than 3.6 million episodes of care annually. With the addition of Maari Ma and the Indigenous Wellbeing Centre, the organisation’s reach is stronger than ever, reinforcing that community control saves lives and strengthens communities.
