27 Jan 2026
SA Health has identified people who were in close contact with her. Two of these contacts have been told to take preventive antibiotics.
Meningococcal disease can appear suddenly. Symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting, neck stiffness, and a rash that looks like red or purple spots. In children, it can cause pale skin, leg pain, or trouble waking.
Vaccines are available in South Australia for infants and Year 10 students. Even if vaccinated, people should still watch for symptoms.
