Dindi, as he is better known, came to the LGH through an introduction by a colleague during his time working in Melbourne several years ago. 

“I was drawn by the opportunity to work in a different healthcare system and the opportunities to help support service development and quality improvement,” he says.

He splits his time between the two hospitals but acknowledges, “I am still a clinician at heart. I do enjoy the challenges of managing a busy Emergency Department shop floor, and in particular managing critically ill or injured patients.”

“The LGH Emergency Department (ED) is great and we have a really friendly, cohesive group of staff specialists here. 

“There is a really proactive approach to clinical governance, education and training and quality improvement. The work undertaken to recruit and retain high quality doctors is second to none.”

It’s early days in his role at the RHH, Dindi says, and there’s much he looks forward to. “I am impressed by the senior leadership team within my stream, the enthusiasm of the various departments I oversee and the support of the Executive team. With my leadership hat on, I really enjoy supporting services develop and thrive, and promoting and empowering good leadership through that process.”

Last year he was recognised in the UK’s New Year’s Honours List as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), for services to pre-hospital and trauma care relating to his time working within the NHS in Wales.

Dindi is enthusiastic about the quality of life in Tasmania. “Being in the outdoors is a key part of being here for me, whether it’s bushwalking, climbing or mountain biking—all good ways to switch off and unwind. Tasmania’s a bit of a secret gem; a great place to work and importantly, live.”
