What to do:
-
Monitor for symptoms if you visited any of the above locations at the specified times.
-
Symptoms include: fever, cough, sore eyes, and a red, blotchy rash starting on the head and neck and spreading across the body.
-
Symptoms can appear up to 18 days after exposure, so it’s important to watch until the dates listed above.
-
Anyone who develops symptoms should call ahead to their GP or emergency department before attending, to avoid exposing others.
Vaccination reminder:
-
Measles is highly infectious but preventable with the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine.
-
Everyone born in 1966 or later should have two doses.
-
Children receive free MMR at 12 and 18 months, and it is also free in NSW for adults who haven’t had two doses.
-
Children under 12 months travelling to high-risk areas may receive an early dose – speak with your GP.
-
If unsure about vaccination status, additional doses are safe and recommended, especially before travel.
-
MMR vaccine is available from GPs (all ages) and pharmacies (over 5 years old).
