Measles Alert Issued for Gold Coast Residents
16 Oct 2025
Residents who were at the following locations on Tuesday 7 October may have been exposed and should monitor for symptoms until Saturday 25 October:
-
Clover Hill State School – 8:30am to 3:30pm
-
Afternoon School Bus from Clover Hill State School to Austinville
-
Afternoon School Bus from Tulipwood Drive, Bonogin, to Austinville
Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious complications. Common symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, sore eyes, and a red, spotty rash. The incubation period is typically 10 days, but can range up to 18 days.
Vaccination is the best protection. Two doses of the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine are required for full protection. The vaccine is free in Queensland for:
-
Children at 12 and 18 months, or earlier if travelling overseas
-
Anyone born during or since 1966 who has not received two doses
If you are unsure of your vaccination status, additional doses are safe and recommended.
Gold Coast residents can access free community immunisation clinics run by GCPHU — no appointment is required. Bring your Medicare card and vaccination record. Immunisations are also available at selected GPs and pharmacies.
