Measles alert for Sydney and Brisbane locations

 The alert also applies to three cases connected to the Jelly Roll concert in Brisbane on 24 October.

Anyone who visited the listed locations during the specified dates should keep a watch for symptoms until Friday, 28 November.
It is important to note that these locations are no longer considered a risk:

Oasis concert at Accor Stadium, Sydney – on Saturday, 8 November
- Sydney Airport, Sydney CBD, inner west areas, and train services – between Saturday, 8 November and Monday, 10 November

Symptoms to look out for include:

Fever
Red or sore eyes
Runny nose
- Cough
- Red, blotchy rash that typically starts on the face and head and spreads to the rest of the body

Measles is very contagious and can spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
Symptoms may appear up to 18 days after exposure.

If you experience any of these symptoms after visiting one of these locations, you should contact your general practitioner or local emergency department before going in person to prevent spreading the disease to others.


Vaccination guidance:

- People born after 1965 should make sure they have received two doses of the MMR vaccine.

- The MMR vaccine is provided free of charge to children at 12 and 18 months of age, and also to adults who have not had two doses.

Infants under 12 months who are traveling abroad can receive an early dose starting at six months – consult a general practitioner for more information.

- If you are unsure about your vaccination historygetting an extra dose is safe.

- The MMR vaccine is available from general practitioners for all ages and from pharmacies for people over five years old.
