Alasdair was remembered at a memorial service at Ockerby Gardens in Launceston on Monday, 15 January after he sadly passed away on 25 December. The memorial service was attended by hundreds of people.

The re-naming of the ward is a fitting tribute to honour the memory of Alasdair, who dedicated his working life to the LGH and to supporting the health of those in the greater Launceston community.

Alasdair was not only an outstanding doctor who was dedicated to his patients, but he was also a wonderful colleague and friend to many, providing care, leadership and compassion throughout his career.
 
The thoughts of those in the Department of Health remain with Alasdair’s family, friends, colleagues and all those who have been affected by his passing.
 
The re-naming of the Acute Medical Unit in Alasdair’s honour reflects his knowledge in acute medicine and tireless commitment to the LGH and northern Tasmanian community.
 
The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at the LGH was established under his guidance and was the first in Tasmania. The models of care for the Unit came from Alasdair’s extensive international and national research into the role and function of AMUs.
 
This is a fitting tribute to honour Alasdair’s memory, ensuring his legacy is continued within the LGH.
