Launceston General Hospital: Access Updates
07 Jan 2026
Construction of the new LGH Multistorey Carpark at Charles and Howick Streets is set to begin in mid-January 2026. This will affect access to parts of the hospital for visitors.
Upper Cleveland Street (14–20 January 2026)
Upper Cleveland Street will be closed from 7:00 am Wednesday, 14 January, until 7:00 pm Tuesday, 20 January while the road is modified for two-way traffic. Detours will guide both vehicles and pedestrians. The Queen Victoria Entrance will remain open, but cars can only enter via the Howick Street public carpark.
Howick Street Carpark (from 21 January 2026)
From Wednesday, 21 January, the Howick Street public carpark will close for the new construction. Visitors can reach the Queen Victoria Entrance by Cleveland Street, whether on foot or by vehicle.
During construction, a temporary carpark will be available at the corner of Mulgrave and Howick Streets. We’ll share the opening details in early January.
A shuttle service will run every 20 minutes from the temporary carpark to the hospital’s main entrance, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
We appreciate everyone’s understanding while these upgrades are carried out.
