Some tablets also contain dipentylone, a powerful stimulant.
Dr Darren Roberts from the NSW Poisons Information Centre said the tablets could be circulating anywhere in NSW. “MDMA can cause severe effects like high temperature, seizures, irregular heartbeat, and even death,” he said. “Taking more than one tablet or mixing with other drugs makes it even riskier.”
Festival-goers are urged to stay safe by taking breaks from dancing, drinking water, and seeking shade. Medical help is free, and calling Triple Zero (000) if someone feels unwell will not get you in trouble.
Drug checking services, onsite medical staff, and trained peer volunteers are available at many festivals. For more information, see the NSW drug checking trial and Stay OK at Music Festivals.
