GP Shared Care Made Pregnancy Easier for Jessica

22 Jan 2026

She discovered the Antenatal Shared Care (ANSC) program in South Western Sydney during her second pregnancy. The program allows women with low-risk pregnancies to share care between their GP and the hospital.

“Once I learned about ANSC, I could continue my pregnancy with my own GP, who already knew my medical history,” Jessica said.

She chose ANSC for her next three pregnancies, appreciating seeing the same doctor each time. Fewer hospital visits made it easier to juggle work, family, and everyday life, while still keeping up with all necessary scans and tests.

“The shared care plan meant appointments were well organised, and my GP could handle routine checks while the hospital followed up on scan results,” she explained.

Jessica said the experience was very different from her first pregnancy, when she saw different clinicians at the hospital and faced unexpected complications. With ANSC, she felt comfortable asking personal questions, and her care was more tailored. She also opted for elective caesareans for her last three babies, supported by detailed growth scans.

“I’d recommend ANSC to any eligible woman. It made my pregnancies less stressful and much easier to manage,” she said.
