Government renews ‘Give Up For Good’ campaign to support quitting smoking and vaping

19 Jan 2026

The latest rollout is centred on helping people break nicotine dependence and improve their long-term health. It follows findings that show many Australians who smoke or vape are already trying to quit, or are open to doing so, and are looking for clear and practical support.

As part of this phase, the campaign continues to outline the harms linked to tobacco and vaping, while also directing people to a wider range of quit services and tools tailored to different groups.

Key health messages highlighted in the campaign include:

  • Smoking remains the biggest cause of preventable death in Australia, with an estimated 66 deaths each day — about one every 22 minutes.

  • Vaping can trigger breathing difficulties, persistent coughing and wheezing, nausea and dizziness, and may damage the lungs.

Information and advertising have been specifically developed for:

  • Young people who vape

  • Adults who vape

  • Adults who smoke

  • First Nations adults who smoke

The campaign is being delivered through television, cinema, digital video and audio, social media, radio and outdoor advertising until June. It also appears on the Uber app and on streaming service pause screens to reach people at times when they may feel tempted to smoke or vape.

The ‘Give Up For Good’ campaign supports the Australian Government’s broader approach to reducing harm from tobacco, vaping and nicotine addiction, alongside strengthened laws and enforcement. Since 2024, the campaign has already helped thousands of Australians take steps towards quitting.
