Funding to Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Organisations to expand services

The Victorian State Budget 2023-24 invested $35 million in funding in 11 Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) to be delivered over four years.
This initiative, called the and regional Victoria received over $35 million in funding over four years. This initiative is called ‘Strengthening Lifelong Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing of Aboriginal Victorians' focused on creating more urgent pathways to deliver culturally informed and prevention- focused health care. This will help Aboriginal communities better access culturally safe and holistic primary care closer to home.
The initiative and its implementation were co-designed with community with ACCHO recipients supported to determine where the funding would be most effectively and strategically used based on their specific communities' health needs.
This critical funding has enabled ACCHOs to expand their workforce, including nurses, general practitioners, support workers and drivers to reduce barriers and improve access to health care.
