Free Mpox Vaccination Now More Accessible Across Victoria

15 Jan 2026

To help protect communities, free mpox vaccination is now available for a limited time at participating pharmacies across Victoria, with no consultation fees. Eligible Victorians are encouraged to contact their local pharmacy to confirm participation and vaccine availability.

Free vaccination will also be offered at selected Midsumma events, including the Midsumma Carnival and Victoria’s Pride Street Party, delivered by community partners. Both bookings and walk-ins are welcome.

Local GPs, sexual health clinics, and councils are also offering free mpox vaccination. People should check with their provider to ensure vaccine availability before making an appointment.

In Victoria, the vaccine is free and recommended for people at higher risk, including sexually active gay, bisexual, or other men who have sex with men, sexually active transgender and gender-diverse people, sex workers, and sexual partners of individuals in these groups. A Medicare card is not required to access the free vaccine.

Two doses, given at least 28 days apart, are required for full protection. People who have already received one dose are encouraged to complete the second dose.

Chief Health Officer Dr Caroline McElnay said vaccination is one of the safest and most effective ways to reduce the risk of infection and severe illness.

Mpox is still being reported both here in Australia and overseas. Getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to protect yourself and those around you,” Dr McElnay said.
“With more locations now offering free vaccination, it’s a great opportunity for eligible people to check their vaccination status and make sure their doses are up to date.”Calling ahead ensures services can safely manage demand and provide timely access.”

Anyone experiencing symptoms such as rashes, skin lesions, fever, swollen glands, headaches, muscle aches, rectal pain, or pain when passing urine should seek testing promptly through their local GP or sexual health clinic. They should also avoid close physical contact until advised otherwise.
