First 100 SA GPs Now Able to Treat ADHD
27 Feb 2026
From 28 February, the newly trained GPs can assess, diagnose, and prescribe medication for patients aged eight and older. The course was held in Adelaide by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, with doctors travelling from both city and regional areas.
RACGP SA Chair Dr Siân Goodson said the training ensures GPs can provide ongoing, locally delivered care, reducing long waits and pressure on specialists.
The SA Government has pledged $350,000 to train another 100 GPs if re-elected, while the RACGP is also calling for a $20 million Neurodiversity Centre of Excellence to bring GPs, paediatricians, psychiatrists, and allied health professionals together for coordinated care.
