Dr David Sekyere Named Tasmanian ACRRM Registrar of the Year
13 Oct 2025
He recently received the Tasmanian ACRRM Registrar of the Year Award, recognising his leadership, clinical excellence, teaching, and community contribution.
Dr Sekyere initially gained general registration in Victoria but wanted to expand his skills in emergency medicine. He joined the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and chose to train in Tasmania, including experience at the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH).
As part of his ACRRM training, Dr Sekyere works both as an Emergency Department doctor and a GP in Dover, balancing the fast-paced environment of emergency care with the longitudinal care provided in general practice. He describes both roles as rewarding:
“Serving and contributing to people in healthcare and delivering a solid healthcare system is the most rewarding thing – in the ED I get a chance to do that, in the general practice setting I get a chance to do that.”
Dr Sekyere’s supervisor, Emergency Specialist Dr Aung Htay, praised his dedication:
“David is a super awesome registrar and a pleasure to work with – as a supervisor, we want him to reach his maximum potential.”
Dr Sekyere expressed gratitude for the support he has received throughout his journey:
“I always aim to help out as much as I can, so to see that being recognised is very humbling. I want to thank everybody who has helped me in my journey.”
The ACRRM Excellence Awards celebrate registrars and practitioners who demonstrate outstanding leadership, clinical skill, teaching, innovation, and positive community impact.
