Courts Crack Down on Unregistered Health Practice
03 Mar 2026
The rulings highlight that registration is a legal requirement and key to patient safety.
Radiographer Dean Brockdorff pleaded guilty to presenting himself as a registered practitioner while providing mobile X-ray services at aged care facilities. His registration had expired in April 2021, but he continued working.
He was fined $5,500 and ordered to pay $6,500 in legal costs.
His employer, Mobile X-Ray Services Pty Ltd, was also fined $4,150 for failing to properly check his registration and was ordered to pay legal costs.
In a separate case, a nurse who worked unregistered in regional NSW received a 12-month community corrections order and was ordered to pay $9,000 in costs.
Ahpra CEO Justin Untersteiner said registration shows a practitioner meets national safety standards, and both workers and employers must ensure it is current.
