Beforeplay’ Campaign Expands to Boost STI Awareness and Testing
05 Nov 2025
With sexually transmissible infections (STIs) continuing to rise among young Australians, phase 2 of the ‘Beforeplay’ campaign has been launched to promote awareness, prevention, and testing.
STIs such as syphilis, gonorrhoea, and chlamydia remain increasingly common, with one in six Australians likely to contract an STI in their lifetime. The campaign focuses on people under 35 years of age, highlighting the importance of regular STI testing and using protection, such as condoms, to prevent transmission.
Many STIs are asymptomatic, meaning people can carry an infection without knowing it. Early detection through testing allows for effective treatment and helps prevent serious health complications.
The campaign also includes a dedicated First Nations stream, ‘STIs are Gammon’, using culturally appropriate messaging to engage First Nations communities in conversations about STI prevention and testing.
‘Beforeplay’ materials are being delivered nationally across digital platforms, billboards, and community posters, with tailored resources to reach diverse audiences.
