ANSC provider renewal begins in August
28 Jul 2025
The new, annual ANSC provider renewal process for GP Antenatal Shared Care (ANSC) providers introduced in 2024, begins again in August and aims to create a more efficient, structured process for ensuring ANSC providers meet program requirements, including CPD hours.
The ANSC program enables women in our region who are expected to have a low-risk pregnancy to receive most of their pregnancy care with their GP.
Currently there are about 250 GPs listed as registered providers in South Western Sydney.
GPs wanting to maintain their registration as an ANSC provider must complete three hours of eligible CPD and a short, online form by 31 October each year, to retain their registration.
Key points for the new process include:
- ANSC registration renewal takes place annually, with three hours of ANSC CPD to be completed between 1 November and 31 October each year
- GPs will be emailed a unique link to an online registration renewal form each August, seeking confirmation by 31 October they want to remain an ANSC provider for the following year, and declaring they will have completed three hours of eligible CPD in the set timeframe, and accepting the terms of being a ANSC provider. The form will take about five to 10 minutes to complete
SWSPHN and South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) developed the new process for registration to support ANSC providers deliver optimum care to patients by ensuring consistent professional development and enabling GPs to more easily track their CPD hours over one, rather than three years.
SWSPHN manages the administration and audit of ANSC registration and CPD hours.
How do GPs access relevant CPD?
The three ANSC CPD hours can be recorded across different types of activities. For example, they can be recorded as a combination of educational activities and involvement on an ANSC relevant committee.
Visit the Eligible CPD Topics page for a list of eligible CPD activities, or see the list on HealthChat. Upcoming courses are promoted on the Baby Monitor newsletter for ANSC providers.
SWSPHN-run CPD events are promoted on the CPD event page
If you are unsure of how many ANSC CPD hours you have completed, you can log into your RACGP profile at any time to check.
Eligible CPD activities
Eligible ANSC CPD activities are pregnancy-specific activities. It includes CPD on various antenatal topics delivered both face-to-face and online each month by SWSPHN’s CPD team. It can also include external CPD.
SWSPHN keeps a clear record of attendees for any CPD completed through the events it hosts.
GPs are encouraged to provide evidence of any eligible CPD completed externally since 1 November 2024 by emailing this evidence to ansc@swsphn.com.au for inclusion in our records (if not previously provided).
Sufficient evidence includes the attendees name, hours claimed and, if providing a completion certificate or RACGP transcript, clearly marking which activities are being claimed.
If you are undertaking an activity which does not provide a completion certificate, keep records such as minutes or reflections about what you’ve learnt, and include the number of ANSC CPD hours being claimed.
A reminder, if you did not use the CPD hours earned by attending SWSPHN’s Women’s Health Matters conference on 3 November 2024 towards retaining your 2025 registration, those CPD hours can be used towards retaining your ANSC provider registration in 2026.
To ensure the relevance of any external CPD, please consult the list of approved ANSC topics.
If GPs have any questions, or need to update their contact details to receive their registration form, they should contact the ANSC team at ansc@swsphn.com.au
