AMA Welcomes Health Star Rating Reform
19 Feb 2026
The AMA, which has pushed for this reform, says it’s a positive move but only one part of the solution.
Dr Danielle McMullen said Australia needs a broader plan to tackle obesity and chronic disease, including action on sugary drinks. The AMA’s Sickly Sweet campaign supports a tax on sugar-sweetened beverages, with Australians consuming more than 2.2 billion litres each year.
Public consultation will take place before ministers make their final decision.
