AMA Seeks Feedback on Chronic Wound Consumables Scheme

The survey will explore how the program is working for patients and any challenges clinicians have experienced in providing wound care.

Launched in May, the $47.8 million scheme provides subsidised wound consumables for eligible patients, helping to remove cost barriers and support evidence-based care.

The AMA strongly supported the program, describing it as an “important step forward” for Australians living with chronic wounds. Research cited in the AMA’s report, Solutions to the Chronic Wound Problem in Australia, shows chronic wounds affect around 450,000 Australians at any one time and result in significant health and economic costs.

The CWCS provides coverage for patients with diabetes who have chronic wounds, including people aged 65 and older, or 50 and older for First Nations Australians. Health professionals can participate in the scheme after completing the required training.
