ACCC recalls Dr Schwartz hand sanitiser due to methanol contamination
15 Jan 2026
The sanitiser contains methanol, a highly toxic substance that can cause serious or irreversible injury, or death if ingested. While skin exposure is unlikely to cause significant harm, the product is unsafe for use and does not comply with regulations for alcohol-based hand sanitisers.
Residents can view recall details and product photos on the ACCC website: Dr Schwartz Hand Sanitiser – 60ml Bottle, Schwartz Family Co Pty Ltd.
NSW residents can safely dispose of the product in general household waste.
NSW Health reminds the community to use hand sanitisers only as directed, follow label instructions, and store all alcohol-based sanitisers safely out of reach of children. Products used by young children should always be supervised by an adult.
