$61 Million Paid to Practices in First BBPIP Round
13 Feb 2026
The program aims to lift bulk-billing rates and support GP clinics across Australia.
The first payment covered the period from 1 November 2025 to 31 December 2025. The next round will reflect a full three-month cycle. In total, 2,949 of 3,251 registered practices received payments, averaging just under $21,000 each. Some clinics didn’t get paid yet because their registration wasn’t complete or they didn’t meet program requirements. The Department of Health is working with these practices to fix any issues.
The BBPIP is part of the Federal Government’s plan to boost universal bulk billing. A national snapshot shows that since the program began, 3,412 practices have registered, including 1,269 that switched from mixed billing to full bulk billing. Overall, the bulk-billing rate has now risen to 81.4%, though this is still slightly below pre-COVID-19 levels of about 85%.
RACGP President Dr Michael Wright said:
“It’s great to see this extra funding reaching practices. Supporting GPs and the viability of all clinics is essential for the health of our nation.”
