$120m Boost for Australian Health Research

The funding is being delivered through the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF).

The investment will support a wide range of priority research areas, including:

  • 27 new clinical trials to test treatments for rare cancers and rare diseases, funded under the 2024 Clinical Trials Activity grant opportunity

  • 13 projects focused on long COVID, helping researchers better understand and treat post-acute symptoms, funded through the Emerging Priorities and Consumer-Driven Research initiative

  • 12 projects targeting chronic respiratory conditions, aimed at improving early detection, diagnosis and treatment, supported by the Preventive and Public Health Research initiative

  • 8 projects improving the use of patient data in health technology assessment decisions, also funded through the Preventive and Public Health Research initiative

These projects are designed to strengthen Australia’s health system by supporting innovation, evidence-based care and patient-focused research outcomes.
