Staff gathered at the annual development day to reflect on a decade of achievements and to look ahead at how their work will continue shaping primary healthcare and local services over the next 10 years.
SWSPHN was established on 1 July 2015 by the Australian Government as one of 31 Primary Health Networks across the country. Its role is to reduce gaps in services and better meet local health needs by working with GPs, health providers, community organisations and other partners.
Over the past decade, SWSPHN has:
-
Commissioned more than 130 services in areas such as mental health, alcohol and drug support, Aboriginal health, multicultural health, urgent care, after-hours access and aged care.
-
Strengthened the capacity of local general practices and health providers to deliver better care.
-
Managed over $70 million in funding last financial year alone, supporting 139 agreements across a wide range of health initiatives.
Acting CEO Amy Prince said it was an exciting time for primary care and for SWSPHN to continue its role in advocating for the vital contribution of the primary care workforce.
“We have a strong understanding of our local community’s needs and we are proud of the services we have shaped and funded to meet those needs,” Ms Prince said.
“Our partnerships are the backbone of our success. We work closely with NGOs, health providers and the Local Health District to improve coordination of care and reduce health inequities.”
Ms Prince highlighted that SWSPHN’s focus on digital and data infrastructure will ensure the organisation is well positioned to build on its achievements and meet future challenges.
