Victoria has reported more measles cases, mainly from travel overseas or interstate. Health officials remind everyone that vaccination is the safest way to prevent measles.

Important info:

  • Two MMR doses are required for full protection.

  • Infants 6–11 months can get a free dose before overseas travel.

  • People born after 1966 who haven’t had two doses should catch up.

Symptoms to watch for: fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a red rash.

If exposed:

  • Check exposure sites online.

  • Monitor for up to 18 days.

  • See a doctor if you develop symptoms and call ahead.

  • Vaccination may prevent illness if given within 3 days of exposure.
